Scholarship Program

PThe Daisy & King Arthur’s Court Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to honor the memory of Daisy Ruth Henderson-Brown and Arthur L. Cummings, both of whom contributed to their communities in the Onslow County area in impactful ways that last to this day.

Daisy Ruth Henderson-Brown, an Onslow County, North Carolina native, began life with very little. She only completed her education to the eighth grade and was married at the age of 13 in 1936. However, through tragedy and personal trauma, she was able to become one of the County’s most respected entrepreneurs in a time where Whites and Blacks did not integrate. She opened the community’s first group home, and encouraged countless of the area’s elderly, disabled, widowed, and orphaned. She and her husband grew their own food, raised chickens, and donated the bulk of their offerings. Daisy always had something to give to as many people in her community as she could. After her death in 2004, people from all backgrounds recollected her giving and inspirational spirit.

First Sergeant Arthur L. Cummings proudly served the United States Army and this great nation for more than 20 years with honor and distinction. Throughout his tenure, 1SG Cummings received many notable commendations and achievements. He proudly raised his two sons at numerous duty stations across the world while serving in the U.S. Army. Every post that his family occupied, he served his community through his faith and undying devotion to helping others. Following his death in November of 2020, his family found out that he regularly mowed the lawns of families whose spouses were deployed and regularly helped single mothers move into new homes. Countless individuals came forward to recount how Arthur helped financially or just stopped to pray with them in his favorite store, Food Lion. While he achieved many enormous awards throughout his career, his life’s work can be seen in how he served his community.

This scholarship aims to continue their legacy by supporting the educational aspirations of deserving students.
